how does the past historic events have affected the present?

Chinese immigrants

The majority of Chinese immigrants, for example, were single men who worked for a while and returned home. At first, they were attracted to North America by the gold rush in California. Many prospected for gold on their own or labored for other miners. Soon, many opened their own businesses such as restaurants, laundries, and other personal service concerns.

Latin immigrants:

The 2010 Census counted 50.5 million Hispanics in the United Sates, making up 16.3% of the total population. The nation's Hispanic population, which was 35.3 million in 2000, grew 46.3% over the decade, and even more sharply in many Southeastern states.

Some scattered Latinos were reported to settle in Arkansas in early 1890s but most moved, leaving no trace of their Latino heritage. When the first Latinos arrived in Arkansas, they lived at the bottom of the socio-economic system, in part due to a lack of skills, education, or knowledge of the English language.

one question: How does the past historic events have affected the present?

A: well, I think that some events in the past changed significally the present. If this events had not occurred, where would we be now? what had occurred with some things? Let's think about it: what had happened if the French revolution had not happened? probably, the human rights would not exist and everything would be a caos. What had happened if nazi had won the II world war? maybe, we were suffering from slavering and would be in a world-dictadure  that make everyone a slave, well it's what I think...

Holy week

Have you ever asked: what is holy week? well, read and you will find out!

Holy Week is the last week of Lent and the week before Easter. It includes the religious holidays of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday, and lasts from Palm Sunday until, but not including, Easter Sunday, as Easter Sunday is the first day of the new season of The Great Fifty Days. It commemorates the last week of the earthly life of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Canonical gospels.

Activities: some of the activities in this week are: pray on Good Friday at 3:00 pm (for commemorating the Jesus death), share with the family, go to church, making colorful carpets, make Proceciones (type of crusades that makes reference to the Jesus life),  and most important: celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

Beliefs: like it was written, people who celebrate  this week believe in Jesus and his resurrection.

Food: In Guatemala the traditional food in Holy week are: Buñuelos, Torrejas, Molletes, Garbanzo, Pescado a la vizcaina and rellenitos.

Places: In Guatemala some of the most important places were holy week is celebrated are: Antigua Guatemala,(it could be said that this is the most important place, with more history and holy traditions, that carries the most important procesions), Guatemala's city: here you can find some procesions like: Velación de la Virgen de Soledad, Cristo Crucificado del Martinico,  Velación Virgen de Dolores and more, and Quetzaltenango: here are many processions too and also, here are the most beautiful colorful carpets in all Guatemala.

Animal kingdom

some of the relationships in the nature are:

  1. Mutualistic: is the way two organisms biologically interact where each individual derives a fitness benefit. Similar interactions within a species are known as co-operation. An example of this relationship is: the relationship between sea anemones and anemone fish: the anemones provide the fish with protection from predators (which cannot tolerate the stings of the anemone's tentacles) and the fish defend the anemones against butterfly fish which eat anemones.
  2. Commensal: is a class of relationship between two organisms where one organism benefits but the other is neutral (there is no harm or benefit). Example: Orchids and mosses are plants that can have a commensal relationship with trees. The plants grow on the trunks or branches of trees. They get the light they need as well as nutrients that run down along the tree. As long as these plants do not grow too heavy, the tree is not affected.
  3. Parasitic: is one in which one organism, the parasite, lives off of another organism, the host, harming it and possibly causing death. The parasite lives on or in the body of the host.A few examples of parasites are tapeworms, fleas, and barnacles. Tapeworms are segmented flatworms that attach themselves to the insides of the intestines of animals such as cows, pigs, and humans.

    What is symbiosis??!!

Symbiosis is a situation in which 2 different organisms live together in close association. Just living in the same place is not enough. By "close association" biologists mean that if they are separated, one (or both!) of these organisms will probably die.

How can relate symbiosis  relate to friendship?
In friendship when you have a friend  you want to be with him/her just to have fun or do stuff together. symbiosis is when 2 organism live together in close association and in the case of a friend you share time with him/her so it can say you have a symbiotic relationship

domains of Internet

Have you ever asked: Why some pages in the internet have .org, .com or .net?

Well here's the answer

Originally, the three letter extensions after the dot were meant to denote whether the domain name was being used for business (.com), charity/non-profit (.org) or for a technology based company (.net).

However, with the explosion of the Internet (and specifically, the world wide web) as a new business medium. Now, .com, .net, and .org names -the generic Top Level Domains- can be used for any purpose.

Examples of domains:

  • .com = commercial
  • .org = non-profit organization
  • .gov = governement related
  • .biz = buisness
  • .net = network
  • etc.

Hans Hoffman

Hans Hoffman (March 21, 1880 – February 17, 1966)  was a German abstract painter.

Hofmann was apreciated not only as an artist but as a teacher,  He founded a school in Germany and an another one  in America.

Here's one fo his paints that shocked me:

One has to be really imaginative to descrive one of this pictures so what I think is that he is triying to say: it's the future. each square represent a door to the future some will lead to a good future or to a bad one.

Hans Hoffman is a relly creative painter not only for it abstract creativity, for the ways he express himself  too.

the independence of Guatemala

On September 15, 1821, the Captaincy-general of Guatemala officially proclaimed its independence from Spain and its incorporation into the Mexican Empire, which was dissolved two years later. This region had been formally subject to New Spain throughout the colonial period, but as a practical matter was administered separately.
The Guatemalan provinces formed the United Provinces of Central America, also called the Central American Federation. That federation dissolved in civil war from 1838 to 1840.
Guatemala's Rafael Carrera was instrumental in leading the revolt against the federal government and breaking apart the Union.

some soldiers of the guerrilla
The 1970s saw the birth of two new guerrilla organizations, The Guerrilla Army of the Poor (EGP) and the Organization of the People in Arms (ORPA), who began and intensified by the end of the seventies, guerrilla attacks that included urban and rural guerrilla warfare, mainly against the military and some of the civilian supporters of the army.
The Guatemalan Civil War ended in 1996 with a peace accord between the guerrillas and the government, negotiated by the United Nations through intense brokerage by nations such as Norway and Spain. Both sides made major concessions.
More than 450 Mayan villages were destroyed and over 1 million people became displaced within Guatemala or refugees. Over 200,000 people, mostly Mayan, were killed during the civil war.
