Holy week

Have you ever asked: what is holy week? well, read and you will find out!

Holy Week is the last week of Lent and the week before Easter. It includes the religious holidays of Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday, and lasts from Palm Sunday until, but not including, Easter Sunday, as Easter Sunday is the first day of the new season of The Great Fifty Days. It commemorates the last week of the earthly life of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Canonical gospels.

Activities: some of the activities in this week are: pray on Good Friday at 3:00 pm (for commemorating the Jesus death), share with the family, go to church, making colorful carpets, make Proceciones (type of crusades that makes reference to the Jesus life),  and most important: celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

Beliefs: like it was written, people who celebrate  this week believe in Jesus and his resurrection.

Food: In Guatemala the traditional food in Holy week are: Buñuelos, Torrejas, Molletes, Garbanzo, Pescado a la vizcaina and rellenitos.

Places: In Guatemala some of the most important places were holy week is celebrated are: Antigua Guatemala,(it could be said that this is the most important place, with more history and holy traditions, that carries the most important procesions), Guatemala's city: here you can find some procesions like: Velación de la Virgen de Soledad, Cristo Crucificado del Martinico,  Velación Virgen de Dolores and more, and Quetzaltenango: here are many processions too and also, here are the most beautiful colorful carpets in all Guatemala.
